PERSONALITY
Once upon a time, Elizabeth Swann was more mild-mannered, obedient and submissive - more, but not quite all. Like many young ladies of her time, she was suppressed by a society that wanted to tie her up in a corset and put her in a pretty little cage for the rest of her life. Though she wasn't pleased, it wasn't her place to protest - especially as a governor's daughter. Then freedom came in the form of a gold medallion and a ship full of undead pirates. It wouldn't be correct to say that Elizabeth never looked back, but it is safe to say that she feels she is better off a pirate than a commodore's corset-wearing wife.
Elizabeth is very opinionated, as if it needs saying. Her observations are quite often spot on, and she seldom holds herself back. If she is proven incorrect, she doesn't handle it gracefully. She'll grow sulky, snarky and irritable. Clearly embarrassment doesn't become her. Her upbringing has given her the impression that people will do as she says and though she's learned that this isn't always true, some subconscious part of her still expects it to happen. Perhaps it was this thought that gave her the leadership capabilities to handle a ship full of pirates. Though opinionated, something about Elizabeth's way of talking seems to give her the power to inspire others into action, as proven when she talked the Brethren Court and their ships into meeting the East India Trading Company and The Flying Dutchman in battle.
Without a doubt, Elizabeth is bold, if not fearless. Never has she lost the contents of her stomach over a gruesome death or at the sight of a tentacle-covered creature from hell. She's the first to run forward and the last to fall back, and she'll do what needs to be done in a tight spot. Granted, it's not done without some guilt. After she left Cpt. Jack Sparrow for the Krakan, she felt terrible. Nevertheless, Elizabeth has a strong sense of duty and the ability to see the bigger picture. She's strong, independent and intelligent - little wonder that she couldn't find satisfaction during her twenty years as a governor's daughter. A spirit like hers is meant for the wheel of a ship and a wide ocean.
PHYSICAL APPEARANCE;
Elizabeth is a slender woman, but not so small that she cannot be choked to death by a corset. When she's aboard The Empress, she won't wear a dress, preferring an oriental style of coat found in the Asian Pacific. She'll dress in men's clothing, complete with hat and boots, though she isn't as attached to her affects as some pirates are. Clothing is clothing - as long as she's wearing something, she'll make do. Her upbringing still resonates within her; she won't wear anything too revealing. She's seen what happens to those women in places like Tortuga. Though she wears mens clothing, she has no desire to dress like a prostitute.
Most of Elizabeth's pirate clothing is well-fitted and worn. If she's on land and she's somewhere that isn't pirate friendly, she'll don the dresses and the skirts, but she'll tuck a weapon somewhere within the folds of her material. Being among enemies has made her a little paranoid and wary to trust others if only because she does not wish to be caught off guard. Elizabeth prefers a sword over any other type of weapon, though she's also used musket and is familiar with the operations of cannons. She keeps with her the Piece of Eight given to her by Sao Feng [the Jade Captain's knot] and has hidden William Turner II's heart in a location unknown to anyone but herself. The key to the chest she wears around her neck under her clothing; she never takes it off.

WHAT'S YOUR STORY, SAILOR
FAMILY;
Father: Gov. Weatherby Swann; dead.
Mother: Mrs. Swann; dead.
William Turner II: Fiancee.
Bootstrap Bill Turner: Father-in-law-to-be.
BACKGROUND;
Elizabeth grew up in London, bred to be a good wife to a man of some social standing. Her father became the governor of Port Royal and she sailed with him to the Caribbean at age 12. There she would meet a young Will Turner and take from him a bit of aztec gold, not realizing what effect her childish action would have on her six years later. Fast forward to age 20. Having been at a marriageable age for a decent amount of time, it was decided that Elizabeth should marry. Commodore Norrington was the one to propose to her; before she could accept or decline, she lost consciousness and fell off the rampart of a fort and into the water below, where she was rescued by none other than Jack Sparrow. When her aztec gold hit the water, it summoned those who had been searching for it, Captain Hector Barbossa among them. Elizabeth was kidnapped, and life as she knew it was altered forever.
In the following two years, Elizabeth found herself captain of The Empress, a pirate lord, the Pirate King and - perhaps most importantly - the fiancee of the captain of the Flying Dutchman. Though Barbossa had wed them during the battle with Davy Jones, she and Will felt they needed a proper ceremony to truly be together. Unfortunately, Will's pact has left them apart. Elizabeth has tried to live without her fiancee, but she is already realizing how long and lonely these ten years will be without him by her side. Though she has settled in Shipwreck Cove and attempted to establish a home for herself there so she can keep up on news and wait for Will, she has knows it's not the place to raise the family they hope to have someday. Her eyes constantly stray toward the sea, watching for her lover and longing to ride the waves again.

ROLE PLAY EXAMPLE;
Perhaps if he had not been French, she would have liked the man she danced with, or at least had a little more respect for him. He certainly disguised his feelings of disdain toward her bloodline with a thin veil of politeness. Indeed, sometimes she could feel his desire to mock her nearly as strong as her desire was to return the favor. If only it were appropriate to say the things that were on one's mind. Perhaps if she had been brought differently. Then again, if she'd been brought up differently under a different family, they wouldn't be having this discussion. It was difficult for Catherine not to make a face of disgust. Imagine if she would have been born French!
"Sólo los ignorantes creen que todo lo que escuchan..." She raised an eyebrow at him as the dance bid that they turn from each other again. Perhaps it was a sign that she agreed with his words - perhaps it was a sign that speaking her native language did not endear him to her. A pig could speak Spanish, but that would not make it a Spaniard. The music swung them toward each other again, and she retook his hand in silence, not knowing he'd just realized that out of all the people in the room, they were the most closely connected. She would hear that thought of his soon enough.
"Perhaps you should ask Sir Thomas More if he finds my intellect to be of humanist orientation. Surely you would trust a man as honorable and pious as Sir Thomas?" Her lips tightened again, and her eyes glanced over his face once, cool. "Sir Thomas is indeed one of the most virtuous men at court. A pity more couldn't follow his example." Her gaze met his for a moment, before she continued. "I might rather discuss his literature than idle gossip and rumors. Wouldn't you agree? His 'Utopia' is a most intriguing piece." Ordinary women wouldn't discuss reading with the gentlemen of the court. Catherine was no ordinary woman.
"It has been an enjoyable one, but even were it not it is yet another social duty to pretend that it is." Catherine gave him a neutral look in reply. Was that not what they were doing now? It was difficult to let him continue to take her hand when she wanted to be free of him.
"I have offended you? I did not intend to." Catherine remained silent until her partner spoke again. "No more intriguing, I am sure, than they find a foreign princess." With a bitter smile, Catherine shook her head slightly. "I am afraid I no longer intrigue them. They have had several years to become accustomed to my presence, haven't they?" Several years she'd spent here, unmarried and waiting for another marriage offer to come her way. There had been none, and her household continued to suffer as it relied on the English crown to finance it. Her ladies were not dressed in gowns befitting their station - her own was not as fine as it might have been were she a queen and not a princess at a court that had no use for her.
"I am slightly less foreign although still foreign on my mother's side. Which amuses me, I will confess, as of all the people in this room, I am likely the most similar to you in blood." Catherine paused in thought but not in motion, continuing the steps of the dance as she thought over the other man's words. Yes, she supposed that might be correct. "How ironic," She murmured before a half-smile formed on her lips. "Perhaps God has placed us here for a reason, Lord Wilmington." Friends at the English court, most bitter enemies on the continent. Irony indeed.
