PERSONALITY
Helena is a silent worker. She works in subtle ways to get the things that she desires most. Whereas most people will barge through and claim, Helena will scheme and use her wits and cunning to bring about the change that will suit her needs.
She can be deemed as cold and unfeeling but there is a deeper sense to the outlier. One must dig deeper then face value to see the true colors, no matter what shade they are. Few have recognized her true beauty held within the dark depths. Accepting of anything with a dark nature Helena embraces the ways of battle and death like someone familiar with its intricate designs. She is controlled in how she shows people her true workings, choosing only to reveal them to those that are truly worthy.
Helena doesn't do anything by half. If she embarks on a challenge, she will do whatever it takes to accomplish it.. If she loves, she loves with her whole being.. if she hates, then the worse death is reserved for that being. She is a truly valuable asset to a fighting force becoming indifferent to life and death.
However, despite her driven nature, she has a tendency to let her own arrogance that runs so rampant in her family get in her way. Because of this, she can also be very vain and insubordinate, which can get her in trouble. She has the tendency to be stubborn as a mule and is unwilling to listen to others, even if she knows they’re right.
She is known to be haughty and arrogant, with a Cheshire cat grin. She is known to have a way of carrying herself with poise and grace that makes it nearly impossible for one to believe that she is a pirate. She never adapted pirate slang, and still talks with proper English.
Helena can only be described as a minx. Being a natural charmer she uses it to it’s full potential. Whether it be playing the innocent damsel or an enchantress she makes sure that the very pores of her body it oozing it. Craving for attention and excitement she loves to stir things up. Being very much like her father there is always a smile or smirk on her face that suggest she knows something that you don’t. She can be sly, coy, and clever, only giving a hint of her mischievous mind that is was plotting.
Helena has a sharp whit and a smart mind. She’s extremely intelligent and will use it to her advantage. She is almost never at a loss for words, and has a brash tongue that can sting. She’s a good liar and a good actress, and is often well known as the girl with the perfect poker face. She can control all of her body’s reactions very well when she lies, having become so comfortable with it that her pupils don’t dilate and her pulse doesn’t speed up. And, she has a mannerism of speaking that can lead you down the path to hell and you’d think she’s taking you to heaven in a hand basket of silk.
When angry Helena doesn’t care who is around to see her. Her tongue is made of venom and fire with matching eyes. She’ll take vengeances whether it be humiliating someone or completely tearing them to bits with words, and without a second thought. Seeing this side of her isn’t very pleasant and should be avoid at any cost.
Unfortunately this leaves her with quite a few enemies, mostly woman. But she could care less. Why let others ruin her fun?
PHYSICAL APPEARANCE;
A quick glance is never enough for one of Helena’s status, one really has to take a longer look to fully appreciate all that is going on. The blend of her features is something to be admired for more than a few seconds and in her lifetime Helena has received more than her far share of double-takes, even triple-takes. What first catches people is obviously her body. Although Helena is not exactly curvy she has enough of a bust and wide enough hips to scream of femininity. But her beauty goes beyond that, far beyond, above those long legs and narrow torso. Beyond even the naturally bronze skin tone. Where the body will quickly lose attention the face will hold it, and likely for a significant time.
The eyes are what draw the attention next, framed as they are by thick, dark lashes. A most brilliant shade of gray they are rather deep set, lending her the appearance of always being broody or tired. Bedroom eyes they have been called, and the title suits them well. If you look close enough they are not a simple gray, almost a hazel lined with a deep emerald blye that blends together to become a flowing blue-gray. Her eyes are the windows to her soul and they bare her emotions for the world to see, even though she has learned to control what emotions are displayed by this point in her life.
The eye is likely to follow those eyes to Helena’s nose, what she considers to be one of her worst features. More than once she has complained that it is too long and too wide not to mention patterned with freckles. In her opinion freckles make her seem far too cutesy, a term that the young woman loathes completely. In her younger years, when her skin was intentionally kept paler than it is now, the freckles were not as visible. However, now with the sun she has been in over the past few years, they are far more visible.
She also hates her jaw line. While most women like a square, thick jaw like Helena’s, she can’t stand it on her. She feels it makes her look almost mule like, and finds it to over-done against her thin neck and the rest of her tiny body. She does not accent it much, and actually prefers to underplay it by wearing her hair down to cover the harsh line.
The hair, being one of the first and last things mentioned, is really quite luscious. It is a dark, chocolate brown, but, in the correct lighting, can appear black It is naturally very voluminous, falling nearly to her waist in thick curls. She often keeps it down and allows it to do as it pleases, but she will pull it back when going into battle or to keep it out of her face if need be.
Back to the body, time for a better look. She definitely has a lovely body. Helena is short in comparison to most girls, reaching only five foot two inches in height. It seems that the average height hovers more around five foot six, so Helena is often a bit smaller than most. Her legs are extremely long, giving her a look akin to a gazelle, finished off by her large brown eyes. Her build is typical to any girl who spends a lot of time outside. She’s slim and well toned with hardly an ounce of fat on her body due to the fact that she is constantly active and busy. Her skin is a soft, golden bronze from her mother's side of the family and the sun.
She dresses rather nicely, especially for a pirate. She usually sticks to things appropriate for her position. Usually a pair of tight-fitted riding breeches, tall boots, a shirt and simple black corset. In cold or nasty weather, she will sometimes wear a long coat to keep her warm. Her jewelry is simply. Her ears are pierced once, and she will sometimes where earrings, but usually only sticks her to mother’s emerald ring and a small, silver cross necklace. She does keep several dresses at hand, when needed to disguise herself, and will wear fine jewelry with those.
HEIGHT;5ft 2in, on a good day
WEIGHT;115 lbs, varying a little by the season.
HAIR COLOR;Dark chocolate brown, almost black
EYE COLOR;Blue-gray with a hint of hazel.
ANY SPECIAL MARKINGS;A few scars across her body from her life at sea, but none of any significance that would be used in identifying her.
WHAT'S YOUR STORY, SAILOR
FAMILY;
Augustina Carista - mother - deceased
Johnathan "Lucky John" Worthington - father - deceased as far as she knows
Auguste Carista - grandfather - aristocrat - deceased
Elizabeta Carista - grandmother - aristocrat - deceased
as well as various aunts and uncles and cousins
BACKGROUND;
Augustina Carista was born the youngest of four brothers in Barcelona, Spain. Her family was of royalty, the last of the bloodline, which made Augustina a valuable bargaining tool. At the age of fifteen, she was sent across seas to the Caribbean, where she was to be married, when her boat was captured by pirates. It was the typical love story like you read in romance novels, the girl from high breeding falls in love with the pirate captain who captures her.
Helena's father, Johnathan, tried to send Augustina home more than once, but she refused to leave him. So for several years, the two cruised the Caribbean on Johnathan's ship until Augustina ended up pregnant. The couple knew that the sea was no place to raise a child, so they invented a story involving kidnap and rape and sent Augustina home to Spain. Helena was born in the heat of the Spanish summer to the life of a monarch, simply told that her father had been a high ranking general who had died in battle shortly after she was born.
In the summer of Helena's fourteenth birthday, word reached Spain that Johnathan's ship had been captured and everyone aboard had either died in battle or had been hanged shortly afterwards. Augustina, who had never stopped loving Johnathan, committed suicide shortly after recieving this news, and Helena was sent to live with her grandparents. Devestated by the loss of her mother, Helena became a bit of a wild child, sneaking out almost every night, racing horses with the boys, and gaining her fair share of scars before much else could be said about it.
However, this was not as much of a big problem as it would be for any normal girl Helena's age. Helena was never a pretty child, she took time to grow into her features. She was rather unattractive, with a far too long nose, big ears, large eyes, and a mouth that was far too big for her face. She only had one true friend as a child, a boy by the name of Samuel Tarleton, who was English. His father was stationed in Barcelona as an ambassador between England and Spain, and he and Helena were very close for a short period of time.
However, Samuel's father transferred back to England shortly before Helena turned fifteen, and the young woman felt she had nothing left to stay in Barcelona for. By the cover of night, she disguised herself as a boy and hopped aboard a merchant ship bound for Tortuga. She managed to become a crew member aboard a pirate ship in Tortuga and began her career as a pirate. For two years, she not only learned the ropes, but also developed into a rather attractive young woman. Her Spanish features became more predominant, particularly her caramel colored skin and her dark eyes, and the full bow of her lips. She learned to use her exotic features to her advantage.
By the time she was seventeen, Helena had learned how to read people. Doing so gave her the ability to put people against each other in order to get what she wanted. And what she wanted was a ship and her own crew. While on leave in Tortuga one evening, she became involved in a card game with a very drunk Admiral in the Royal Navy. Helena came out on the much better end of that deal, not only a few coins richer, but with her own ship in tow. The HMS Austen, as it was formerly named, was a beautiful specimine of a ship. It was French built, bluff above the water and sharp below with five feet thick hulls of solid oak. It provided for a very sturdy but very fast ship.
The ship was appropriately renamed The Devil's Advocate and Helena found a crew, beginning to sail shortly after wards. She gained a reputation as a fierce but good leader, well respected by her crew and most people she encountered. However, her monarchial roots stuck with her, gaining her a reputation as also a bit of a dandy. She was well spoken, always decently dressed and groomed, and professional with everything she did. Her personality gained her the sarcastic nickname 'The Pirate Princess' among those she encountered. She sailed happily for a few years before she brushed with the East India Company while stretching her legs in Kingston, Jamaica.
She was kept in the cells awaiting a hanging when she was reunited with an old friend, Samuel Tarleton, who had joined the Navy a few years prior. He helped her escape her fate and arranged a safe passage for her to Tortuga. To this day, Helena is not quite sure whatever happened to Samuel, and has tried more than once to find out.
She was reunited with her crew in Tortuga, and began sailing once more, making very sure to stay at least two steps ahead of the British. She refuses to be a prisoner ever again.

ROLE PLAY EXAMPLE;
Helena had awoken early that morning, but that was not that unusual for her. She was usually the first to rise and the last to sleep, and last night had been no different. She had spent most of the night up poured over charts at her desk, trying to plot a course to get them out of harm's way.
Unbeknownst to her crew, her first mate had confided in a few days prior that they were being followed. He had seen an English ship slip in and out of sight over the past few days and, at night when all was quiet, he had been able to hear bells. That could only mean that they were being followed by the Royal Navy, and that alone made Helena's skin crawl. The last time she had a run in with the Royal Navy, she had nearly been branded and hung. She had no desire to be that close to anyone wearing a wig ever again.
However, even after most of the night spent pouring over her charts and maps, she had gotten no where fast. She could find no path that would take them safely away from the East India Trading Company without putting her ship in danger. The Devil's Advocate being a former man-o-war herself, was a big ship. She was fast, broad above the water and sharp below, making her speed nearly unmatched. But, that same build made it impossible to get into small coves where they would be passed by without even a glance.
So she had awoken early the next morning, deciding to take her charts out into the natural light of day to observe them better. She had a small table and chair brought onto deck for her, as well as a cup of hot tea, put in a place out of the direct wind. The sun was just raising over the horizon as she sat at a small table and viewed her charts, making various marks on them.
She bit down gently on her bottom lip, running a hand through her thick, Spanish hair and pushing it out of her face as the sea breeze whipped around them. God damn, she had no where to run, and she refused to be taken prisoner again.
