PERSONALITY
Adrienneleo can be described in one simple word; feral. As far as humans go, she is an enigma to their society- with or without the tail- and best not to be trifled with. While she has a fascination with humans and all their ingenuity, she has no compassion or love for them that she has been able to light so far, and views them as only mildly threatening adversaries to her person. Humans, to her, are like gnats to a bull- small, swarming, annoying, but generally unable to afflict any real damage. They are complex creatures, a fact she acknowledges, but she considers them to be useless in the long run, and therefore chooses on a regular basis to not abide by any of their trivial rules. Despite these negative opinions, there is one thing, and one thing only that she loves about humans of any sort- their artwork. Buildings intrigue her, as do portraits and paintings, and such things are what lure her from the watery depth to come take a peek in a two-legged shape. She also has a particular lust for human jewelry- finding its sparkle and sheen irresistible, much like a raven or magpie- and can be coerced into doing things if someone has enough shine to offer her. Leo also has a love of human alcohol, and very cheerily trawls taverns. She has been told that she is a giggling, happy, peppy person when drunk, and though the very thought makes her embarrassed, she can't bring herself to pass any tavern by. If anyone was looking for her on land, they would find her in the roughest tavern, gulping down rum and getting into fights and a whole mess of trouble.
Despite this, Leo is extremely intelligent for a mermaid, and even more so compared to the major workforces and soldiers of the human populations that she has seen. She has an eye for planning and preparation, but also tends to be spontaneous when caught in the real heat of things, and is never at a loss for a back up plan or decision. She has a wide accumulative knowledge from traveling, and from what she knows from other mermaids, a handful of sirens, and a large number of humans, and is constantly adding to that reservoir of information. She has a certain knack for figuring things out, and is a useful creature to have around, as she has picked up a variety of talents from her wandering ways. She can jimmy a lock, pick a pocket, and throw a knife like the most sinister of street urchins, and possesses a basic knowledge of sword fighting and the proper way to handle guns and bayonets. While she rarely puts any of this to good use- she doesn't require money for food, or anything of that sort because of her ability to catch fish in mermaid form, and doesn't often have to fight in legit combat- she does store the information away in neat files of her mind to use in the future, should the opportunity arise.
Adrienneleo has a particular phobia with being touched, due to someone attempting to take advantage of her when she was first getting used to her human shape on land. Because of this, she is particularly hostile and vicious to male humans, and tends to keep them as far from her person as she can make possible. She will happily get along with females of the human or mermaid variety, and though she adores the true art of seducing men into the depths, she finds herself incapable of doing it so often anymore because it requires touch..... and because she supposedly doesn't do such 'horrible' things anymore. While she is not exactly terrified of being brushed past or accidentally jabbed, she is terrified of being grabbed or held on to, and she has a nasty tendency to lash out at whomsoever inflicts even such acts upon her form.... and the results are always nothing shy of a gruesome death.
Hardened and cold from her years of living in her flesh-eating mermaid colony, and from traversing the rowdy port cities across the globe, Adrien is not the type of person you would like to mess with. In water she can swim at high speeds, and her tail contains muscles specifically designed for launching her out of the water to grab sailors from their boats. In human shape, she is not nearly as strong, but she isn't weak- despite her gender. She is as smart as a whip, as strong as a beast of the sea requires, and quite possibly one of the fiercest creatures that has ever traversed the oceans. Occasionally- only in those rare times where she is provoked to a point of no return- she will snap and drag someone down to the depths, reasserting herself as a dangerous beast despite her new lease on a flesh-free lifestyle. Being a rather volatile creature, used to caring for herself and living the generally dog-eat-dog life of her kind, it can be said that Leo does not make the most pleasant company- but if you can look past her variety of imperfections, someone with a craving for a quick, keen minded person might find something within this cold-hearted mermaid.
While she is not particularly kind, Adrien does have her softer moments. She has a slight appreciation for some of the higher minds in human society, as well as the two-legged children of the species in general. She particularly loves telling stories to street beggars and urchins, and has been known to spin great tales of undersea adventures that often captivate her audiences and amuse them at the same time. She can be nice in such off-kilter ways as stopping pickpockets from taking anything from hard working people in the streets, or preventing men from ganging up on a woman walking alone at night. She can even be pleasant enough for long enough a time as to make friends- but this does not happen often with humans, as she has sadly noticed. Where she could share all with her mermaid brethren, human friendship must be closely filtered and watched, and, as she has found, her secrecy often makes friendship of the human variety drift apart after time.
Overall, Leo can be described as having a neutral personality, halfway between cheery and serious, and can be noted for her exceptional knowledge. She is prone to helping out others whenever she can, but does not think of herself as particularly kindhearted. In her opinion, what matters most is not outward personality- it is what is inside, and inside she finds herself to be a twisted, complex knot of a dark and light emotions. On the chance that you can excite her with drink or shiny jewelry, she can be the sweetest person in the world- but outside of those glimpses at her hidden personality, she remains a stolid, immovable creature,
PHYSICAL APPEARANCE;
When in water or when not, Adrie is a sight to behold. As all mermaids, she is very pretty, with very lightly tanned skin and a smattering of lighter freckles across the bridge of her nose. Her eyes are rather big and dark brown in coloration, rimmed neatly in dark eyelashes. Her eyebrows are the same color as her hair and swoop at elegant angles above her eyes. Like a lot of mermaids, she has a very fit body type from the constant muscle work of swimming in her less human shape, and also like many of her kind, she does not lack in many human standards of appeal. After all, being a creature that seduces sailors into drowning- well, one must retain the looks for that.
Despite her pleasant body type, her more drawing qualities seem to be around her head. Adrie has wide eyes and a face shape somewhat between oval and heart- not too plump or pointed, but not quite rounded enough to be thought of as younger than she is. Her hair is the point that most notice the first time they spot her, however. It stretches nearly to her waist in length, and is an appealing wavy mass of various shades of dark and light brown. Her hair is very thick and unmanageable, and tumbles past her shoulders in either form like a waterfall. The hair around the top of her face is shorter, as she had it sliced so the locks would not get in or block her line of sight, and those shorter portions have lost the majority of their waviness in their shortened lengths. Her nose is neither big nor small, as are her ears. Her lips are bordering on the pouting, full lips of a lot of mermaids, and retain an orangey-pink color with the blue sheen of chilled skin.
Her tail is a majestic thing to spot when she is in the water. It makes up six feet of her length when she is in her slightly more scaly form, and is colored a deep, blue-green hue, much like the color of the ocean. She has long, translucent fins on the end that swirl like seaweed through the water, and that are of a slightly lighter color than the main shape of her tail. She has small, tightly-laced scales, much like one would find on a predatory fish such as a piranha, which, when removed, seemed to take on a silvery sheen. Overall, this mermaid appendage is not a thing to be trifled with, as the tail speeds her through the water and lends her the power to leap out and drag sailors form boats, should the need arise.
When in mermaid shape, Adrie does not- like the majority of mermaids- wear anything over her human torso. She doesn't see this as awkward, embarrassing, or improper, and keeps a quiet opinion that all females of all species should do the same. Because of this belief, wearing clothes in her human shape is a chore and a nuisance for her, and if it weren't for the things she was warned of and knows, she would happily go about without. In human shape, she tends to stick to loose articles of clothing. Shoes are viewed by her as unnecessary, as with many mermaids, and she prefers to go without.
As mermaids possess extreme good looks, going anywhere on land is a chore for Adrie, as she has oftentimes been stopped in the street by idiots mistaking her for a wench, or some sort of low-level prostitute. Because of this fact, she tends to wear mens clothes, tie back her hair, and dirty herself if she needs to be on solid ground. In short, she turns herself into a young street urchin. Few see her dressed as a girl in her human form, and even fewer would notice the similarities between the male persona she will don and the female that hides itself away from the human world.
Mermaid form sees her adorned with pearls, gems, shells, and undersea treasure of all sorts. She hides these things when she has a need to walk on land, but she is very possessive and will often return to her hiding spots to check on her things.
When she is a mermaid, she sheds some of the weight that she must contend with on land. The bones, cartiledge, and flesh she has in this state are of a lighter quality than a humans so she isn't kept from speeding in the water.
HEIGHT; Human height- 5"8, Mermaid height- 11"8
WEIGHT; Human wight- 133 lbs, Mermaid weight- 96 lbs
HAIR COLOR; Brown
EYE COLOR; Dark brown
ANY SPECIAL MARKINGS; The teeth marks of one of the many beasts of the sea adorns her left side, in a semicircle of gouges that lie just above her tail-line in mermaid form, and pant-line in human shape. In mermaid form, her tail has a triangular piece torn out of the flowing end fins, which distinguishes her from any other brown haired mermaid of her coloration. Other than those two things, she seems relatively unmarked.
WHAT'S YOUR STORY, SAILOR
FAMILY;
She has many 'sisters' in the sense that she functions like the majority of other mermaids and tends to travel in a group. She has blood relatives in all parts of the world, and species relatives spread out equally far. She doesn't know of her father- or really care- and nor does she remember a mother, so there are no specifics in this category.
BACKGROUND;
Adrienneleo was born in Whitecap bay, like many of her kind, and her childhood was uneventful. The greatest thing in her history happened when she was eighteen, at a time she and most of the mermaids of the bay referred to as 'the great churning.' It was a time when some later sea-travelers had come to inspect the ancient lighthouse that was set on the rocky beach of the island, and had come face to face with a massive colony of half-human water creatures. The sailors had been cheery upon spotting the lighthouse from their ship- they had mistook the unlabeled area as some sort of small bay-side town- and had set out in longboats, drinking, rowing, and merrily singing as they paddled closer to the beach. Their singing had called the first mermaid to them- a blond older mer by the name of Nerissa, who soon signaled more of her friends to rise while even more of their group waited in the water beneath the boats. The sailors, apparently unaware of what the new strangers were, had called and sang out to them, as if hoping to draw the girls up onto the longboats for whatever the drunk men had in mind. Being creatures of the sea, and creatures who had to drag men back to the sirens, all of the mermaids on the surface had begun drawing the men to the sides of the boats, luring them with low singing and mischievous looks.
It was, in short, a massacre. A single longboat made it to the shore, with only four passengers aboard by the time the older mer had plucked victims from their midst. The water churned with fish tails and blood, and bones rained down on the ocean floor as the mermaids stripped the flesh from the humans bones like a seething, carnivorous beast. There were sacrifices taken down to the Sirens, but the majority of the two-legged creatures were devoured, and those left on the big ship were dragged down, and their vessel torn to pieces. The four humans surviving were picked off as the day went by- one by one, they were dragged out with the lasso-like structures the mermaids used to reach prey on the beach and cliffs without forfeiting their tails. There was only one human left by the time a month had passed- a resilient young man of about twenty or so years of age that kept well away from firing range of their weapons. But by that time... well, most presumed him dead, and the island was a safe haven for young mermaids to practice their human appearances once more. It was by doing just that that Adrie came face to face with the human himself.
She had been awaiting the ruckus to die down in the bay so that she could practice walking on two legs up on the island- in case she ever had to go and fetch some land thing for the use of another mermaid, or in case she wished to look for adornments to wear beneath the waves. Once the month had passed and all had forgotten of the human, she was allowed to go out, and she crawled up out of the water and into the jungle-like depths of the island the instant it was permitted. Unaccustomed to walking, she prowled through the underbrush like a four-legged animal might- and it was in this way that she was caught by the humans trap. He was still alive, apparently, and prospering with the supplies of the dead that had washed up with him and the others on the boat. A noose of rope cleverly disguised among the trees and foliage was all it took to keep him well fed- and all it took to capture Adrie, as she knew not of such dangers on land. He found her hours later, in the dark of night when he had come to check the trap- and was amazed, mumbling something along the lines of 'They can become.. human?' or some other rot that didn't sink in to Adrie's skull as she hung by her legs upside down, hissing in the way of the cornered members of her kind.
Surprisingly, he cut her down, and attempted to shoo her off toward the beach- for the man was not one for revenge for his fallen comrades, nor contempt for a creature of a supposedly 'evil' race. Being how she was, however, Adrie remained, watching him and learning human methods from her observations. Weeks later, however, she found he was not as pleasant as she had first imagined, when he cornered her up on the island to do something vulgar. It was at that point that she tempted and twisted him to the shore, holding him in the palm of her hand like a puppeteer. He was disposed of quickly and without emotion- she had come to like him, very nearly she had come to fancy him, perhaps... but he was, after all, human.
At the present moment, Leo has left her cove to wander the high seas. She has been converted from her flesh-eating, bad ways into a kinder creature, though a slip-up here and there has occurred. She can be found by day in the seas, and by night in taverns around any town in the Caribbean.

[Excerpt from one of my oldest sites. Probably will make no sense. x3]
"Wouldn't want you to get caught by your alpha."
He was contemplating that sentence when someone was caught- but it didn't seem to be him. Ray was in some state of anger when he whirled up, hissing as though he was in his tiger form. As though he could take on anything. ...Not that Aidan doubted he could in human form either- the alpha was alpha for a reason... But in the moment it seemed Ray had an odd gleam of protectiveness in his eyes. Aidan was new- he had figured the alpha into being a 'laid-back partier' kind of person... but it seemed this was not always so. Reaching up to twist the little stud in his ear thoughtfully, the deer shifter stared with wide eyes at the girl he had nearly collided with. What had the alpha said? Snipping tags...? Oh. Oh, now he understood. That was just great.
All the wonderfully benefiting powers of shifters and the loner was using hers to shoplift. In plain sight, according to the fuming tiger-man beside him. ...Well. He hadn't thought that would be something a shifter would do. Wasn't abiding laws and avoiding attention in the shifter manual? ...was there even a manual? He wondered briefly what the girl had stolen... and whether she was finding it worth being roared at by the eloon alpha. He supposed not, for the growling authoritative voice even had him quivering a little. On the inside of course- Aidan was an emotionless mask on the outside, no matter what the situation. He almost felt sorry for the loner, who had probably woken up that morning not expecting to be reprimanded by a stranger.... but it seemed, according to ray, she had brought such a verbal slap to the face upon herself. And all for what? Something just as easily purchased? He could see why ray was upset. Why he seemed so angry. Stealing using shifter abilities was such a stupid and obvious task that the scientists, had there been any near, would have captured the stranger in a heartbeat. Perhaps they were even watching now... seeing who she interacted with... who else was a shape changing 'freak of nature'....
Thoroughly distracted, he narrowed his eyebrows and stared- or glared, however you looked at it- at the loner shifter. /Danger by association, and all that jazz./ his thoughts growled, and he felt the need to tug once more on the stud in his ear, pondering what exactly was going to happen next. If the girl was a fighter... hm... the verbal battle might be interesting to watch, no matter how dangerous a situation it would place them in. If she happened to be a runner... would fleeing without response only spur ray's anger further? He figured so, and a slight grin twitched across his lips. Running had certainly spurred the alpha into chasing after him- which reminded the deer that he had technically 'challenged' the tiger-man beside him, and he cheerily took two steps to the left, moving away from the most immediate danger.... ray.
That reminded him of the last thing the alpha had said- about being seen and the danger she was putting everyone in by doing such a stupid thing. Several things in that mass of words had caught his interest- but one stood out above the rest. /Oooh... I'm a distraction? So the kitten took the bait... / he was amused, to say the least. Idiotically so. But his grin of humor faded into a slightly disappointed look as he realized what he was going to miss. /I suppose today we will not find out which is the fastest. Perhaps I should wait for a day when you aren't in those ridiculous humongous shoes..../
PIRATES OR NINJAS; Filthy, mangy, staunch, bloodthirsty pirates are what I prefer, as I love the sea and treasure hunts, Savvy? (;
